Urgent prayer request: Mark's throat has been hurting since Wednesday morning. It had been getting progressively worse, and that combined with the nausea has made it even harder than usual for him to eat.
He has had one ramen cup each day, a handful of strawberries yesterday morning and popsicles. Today he has had two popsicles, one this morning, one tonight, and half a cup of tea with honey, in addition to water (not nearly enough).
We've tried throat drops, chloroseptic, Tylenol, ice. They are finally calling in a prescription to numb his throat, but it won't be ready until tomorrow morning.
Their advice is to use the oxycodone we have, but I only have two left, and they each last 4 hours.
To put this pain in perspective, after surgeries his pain number never went above a 3. When we first went into the ER with the hydrocephelous, his pain was at a 7. This he is calling a 5.
The pediatric nurse I spoke with said it's because the cells in the mucous lining in his throat are being killed off.
Please pray for a peaceful rest and pain relief through the night and that the medicine will work quickly and help him to eat again.
Thank you all. God bless.
Is there a dietician you could speak to that could devise a gentle way for Mark to get nutrition? Popsicles and strawberries both irritate my throat ... maybe milkshakes or kale smoothies?

I am a CC F/E director in Georgia and just heard about your journey. I had a rare cancer 2 years ago and I know how important the little things can be during this time. I pray for the Devil to be bound and for your family to experience peace in the midst of this storm. I ask for Healing in Jesus's name!

Wendi, I am a fellow CC mom from SC. Our oldest son just went through nine months of treatment for cancer at St Jude Children's Hospital. Or family of six was split up for the better part of nine months. If you ever want to talk to someone who's been through a similar situation or if there are any questions you have that you think we could help with, please call, text, or email. 803-463-1015 basiemanski@gmail.com And please give the coconut oil a try! Keep your eyes on Jesus and know in your heart that He has paid the price for Mark's complete healing. Statistics don't matter. Our faith in the One who can heal us does. You WILL get through this.

When our son went through chemo, he had terrible mucousitis and couldn't eat or drink to the point they put him on iv nutrition. They almost had to delay his surgery because of the sores going down the back of his throat. I had him start brushing his teeth with coconut oil at least twice a day. Coconut oil is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and of course moisturizing. At first the doctors thought I was just strange, but after seeing that Maxwell NEVER had another mouth sore again during the next 15 rounds of chemo he had, they were telling everyone about coconut oil. I pray it works for Mark!!!!!!

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this a sore throat is just so painful. I agree that they should use a heavy duty spray. Also, soft food or liquid to keep the irritation to a minimum . Thank goodness he has a break for the next two days to give him some time to recover before the next round.

God in Heaven, please grant the pain relief Mark needs, Amen. Years ago I had a horrible sore throat. Finally Doctor prescribed a "novocain" like gargle. It helped the pain, BUT I had to be very careful eating, because I lost "sensation" in the throat due to the Novocain. I had to eat small pieces, and be careful. Not the most comforting news I realize, but, I'm sure the Doctors will advise you. If by some chance they do not, something to keep in mind. We ask in God's name to heal Mark of these concerns, rapidly, Amen.

Prayers you have... 24/7. A very non-professional-medical question...
ReplyDeleteI have had 2...maybe even 3 endoscopies over the years. Dr. sprays a my throat, waits a few moments & then does the procedure. It is totally painless & works extremely well in a matter of a few seconds. No after-effects that I recall.

St Thomas has a great book or prayers, for those whom may not know. They come very useful in situations like. So prayers on their way.
